We live by the idea that there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the need for the right gear. Whether it’s 100 degrees or just rained, we still make it a point to get outside. Movement, fresh air, and sunshine are daily essentials in our home. When we dress intentionally and plan ahead, even the hottest days can still hold moments of joy and play.
The Texas heat rolls in fast and once it’s here, there’s no ignoring it. By June we’ve stocked the pool bag, found our rhythm with splash pad mornings, and embraced the kind of slow, sun-drenched days that only summer brings. The kind of days when Rosie comes home with wet hair, tan lines, and dirt under her nails and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’m sharing our summer favorites, from breathable clothes and kid-friendly products to activities that help us embrace the heat without letting it wear us down. I hope it gives you a few ideas to make the most of these sun-soaked days.
One question I get a lot this time of year is: “What do you actually use for sun protection?” So before I dive into the products we keep in our pool bag, check out my full approach to sun exposure (how I prep my skin, what sunscreen we use, and why I believe internal SPF is a real thing) in my blog Vitamin D and Natural Sunscreen.
My favorite swimsuits – I wear size XL and they sell out fast!

Some summer days are just too hot to be outside, and that’s when having a few go-to indoor activities makes all the difference. I’m always looking for ways to keep Rosie engaged without defaulting to screens, and the Yoto Player has been perfect for those long afternoons. I wrote a blog on All Things Yoto and How To Make Your Own Yoto Cards
Yoto Player – indoor play for the day you can’t bear it outside
Summer Booklist – I’ve curated a list of books for each month of the year from Brighter Day Press List and 1000 hours outside list

I always find myself traveling more in the summer, whether it’s a beach trip, visiting friends in another state, or a quick road trip to explore somewhere new. No matter where we go, I still love creating a space that feels like home. If you’re looking to travel and still keep a nontoxic lifestyle, check out my blog on How To Make A Home Away From Home.
My FULL travel list – think organizers, personal fans, hydration, supplement organizers, everything.
